Fire Calls

During the month of October, the Fire Department responded to nine service calls, smoke scares or recreational fire complaint calls. Also during October, 18 hazardous conditions and 39 false alarms were reported. In addition, firefighters and paramedics responded to 270 medical calls.

Unattended candle placed in plastic pumpkin, caught fire and damaged surface underneath.
Oct. 16, 2008 7200 block of York Avenue Unattended pan of oil left on stovetop, extended to wall, cabinets and microwave.
Oct. 30, 2008 5300 block of West 70th Street Unattended BBQ grill embers caught leaves underneath, wooden deck, then siding and eaves on house.
 
Oct. 31, 2008 5200 block of West 62nd Street Unattended candle burned through the bottom of a pumpkin, caught surface underneath and molding around nearby window.

Oct. 16, 2008 300 block of Van Buren Avenue Oven fire from too much grease during self clean function.
VEHICLE FIRE Oct. 19, 2008 Highway 62 and Highway 100 Engine Fire.
Oct. 30, 2008 France Avenue and West 65th Street Fire in cargo bed of pickup truck, unknown source.
NATURAL VEGETATION FIRE Oct. 20, 2008 Benton Avenue and Hansen Road Burning leaves under railroad bridge, suspicious.
Oct. 28, 2008 6600 block of Dakota Trail Mulch and leaves smoldering, short found in wires for landscape lighting.
Oct. 29, 2008 4100 block of Grimes Avenue Small leaf pile fire, out upon arrival.
OUTSIDE EQUIPMENT FIRE Oct. 1, 2008 Wilson Road and Normandale Road Power pole fire, probable cause was damage to electrical wires from car crash into pole.
