Municipal Liquor Food Drive a Success

The first-ever Municipal Liquor Food Drive, sponsored by the Minnesota Municipal Beverage Association (MMBA) and Coors Brewing, proved to be a big success.

The food drive, which ran from Oct. 1 to Oct. 31, gave Edina Liquor customers the opportunity to bring non-perishable canned goods or dry food donations to any one of Edina Liquor’s three locations. Food items were donated to Volunteers Enlisted to Assist People (VEAP), a local non-profit agency serving low-income, elderly and disabled persons in the communities of Bloomington, Edina, Richfield and South Minneapolis. The individual store that collected the most food over the course of the month earned an additional $2,000 donation to their local food shelf of choice.

Food totals collected by Edina Liquor:

50th & France: 310 pounds

Southdale: 170 pounds

Grandview: 425 pounds

Total food collected: 905 pounds

MMBA and Coors Brewing coordinated the event with municipal liquor stores in 120 cities statewide.

On top of that, the stores, operated by the City of Edina, put profits back into the City, reducing taxes and helping pay for City services. Truly, buying locally benefits locally.
